Best dayTaking a trip up Lac Leman on a 100 year old paddle steamer out of Geneva.
Worst/ hardest dayNice to Annemasse via Mont Blanc and Turin. Hard work biking, heat wave weather. Meant to end day in Turin but pressed on to Annemass (right outside Geneva) as Turin was a concrete nightmare of roads.
Favourite placeGeneva - an oasis after Turin.
Biggest headacheThe time limit we'd set ourselves. If we had more time we'd have had a lot less stress. I wanted to bike out to Interlaken for instance but just didn't have the time.
Biggest mistakeEither mistaking a motorway sign outside Turin and biking 25 miles to the east before realising mistake - and having to go another 35 before finding somewhere to turn and rejoin - or, spending 2+ hours in the LeMans motorway construction nightmare trying
Most pleasant surpriseNorth east France: Reims, Rouen, Dijon even... Reims - the Taittinger champagne house is very nice :) Rouen's Cathedral was all lit up with overlays of Monet's series of paintings from the second-floor studio he painted them in, which is now the Tourist
Any illnessJust hangover! In Montpellier.
Other trips plannedRoute 66 on a rented Harley.
One travel tipNeed to make serious miles? Ignore anyone who tells you French A-roads are fine for the task. They aren't. They're stuffed with slow moving traffic avoiding the motorway tolls. Get on the motorway and get where you need to go.
